The Experience
Every offsite generates an enormous amount of talking, and almost none of it is the conversation the team actually needed to have. That one does not happen in a room with a projector. It happens outside, after dark, when people are looking at a fire instead of at each other.
This is a facilitated evening for six to twenty-four people around a bonfire on the ranch. Ben leads it — a two-time founder with two exits behind him, and a forum facilitator for a post-exit founders’ community. He has run this conversation with a lot of leadership teams and he is not precious about it.
The structure is deliberately light. One question at a time, a circle, and enough silence that people answer honestly rather than quickly. No slides. No flip chart. No trust exercise.
It pairs naturally with the River Walk earlier in the same day. Groups that have already been quiet together at the water are noticeably more willing to be honest at the fire.
